👀 Why “Weird” Coins Can Be Valuable
Most people would toss aside a coin that looks strange or damaged. But collectors know better! Recently, a follower found a very large CUD error on a Drummer Bicentennial Quarter, and it turned out to be a great discovery.
If you ever see a coin that looks odd, don’t disregard it — it might be worth more than you think.
🔎 What is a CUD Error?
A CUD error happens when part of the minting die (the stamp that strikes the coin) breaks off. When this broken die strikes the metal, it leaves a raised “blob” or missing section of design on the coin.
This makes the coin instantly collectible because it’s a true minting error, not just post-mint damage.
💰 Value of CUD Error Coins
- A quarter with a large CUD error, even uncertified, can sell for around $89.
- If you get it certified by PCGS or NGC, the value can go much higher because collectors trust verified errors.
- Certification also makes selling much easier, since the coin’s authenticity is guaranteed.
